A Texas Hill Country tradition, the Annual CPRA Sanctioned/Open VFW Rodeo has been held for 72 years on the first weekend in July at the VFW’s rodeo grounds, Chester Franklin Arena, north of Wimberley on Jacobs Well Rd., just off Ranch Road 12.
Once the largest outdoor rodeo in Texas, the event still ranks near the top. This is a Cowboys Professional Rodeo Assn. (CPRA) sanctioned/open event (Ranked “Best CPRA Rodeo of the Year” in the 2006 CPRA Hall of Fame).
The VFW Rodeo is sponsored by Wimberley’s VFW Post 6441 and Ladies Auxiliary as a not-for-profit event. Proceeds are used to support a variety of veteran and community activities and organizations.
Thursday, Friday, Saturday (July 5th, July 6th & 7th, 2018) – Gates open at 5:30, First Mutton Bustin’ at 7:00, Rodeo begins at 8:00
Events include: bull riding, tie down calf roping, bareback & saddle bronc riding, steer wrestling, team roping, women’s breakaway roping, and women’s barrel racing.

Creekside Cookers BBQ – Food vendor
Each night features antics of famed bull-fighter, clown and barrel man Leon Coffee
Free fireworks show nightly after the rodeo performance (weather permitting)
Tickets at the gate: Adults – $15, Children 12 & under $10

Nightly performances of the Lone Star Cowgirls, a rodeo precision riding team, known for their beautiful painted horses and sparkling red, white and blue costumes.
2 calf scrambles nightly: one for ages 5-8 and another for ages 9-12
Mutton Bustin’ register outside the VFW hall at 6:00p.m Cost is $20 per ride, 60 lb. maximum rider weight. Riders compete for the Ellen Allen Memorial trophy
