SPECIALIZING IN:
A challenging and fun trail system has made McKinney Roughs Nature Park popular among horseback riders. No rental horses are available and no overnight horse camping in the park itself.
Several of the trails provide scenic overlooks across box canyons, criss-cross pine groves and grasslands, and meander along the Colorado River. Two equestrain trailheads provide access to the McKinney Roughs Nature Park trail system.
The Highway 71 Trailhead is located on the westbound side of State Highway 71 just 1/4 mile east of the McKinney Roughs entrance. The trailhead allows immediate access to the east side of the park.
The Pope Bend Trailhead provides immediate access to the west side of the park. From the McKinney Roughs main entrance, travel one-mile west on State Highway 71 to Pope Bend Road. The trailhead is located 1.5-miles down Pope Bend Road on the right side.
Both trailhead gates are opened at sunrise and closed at sunset everyday if weather conditions permit. See the LCRA website for more detailed information.
